Handouts

These handouts were created in response to student needs. I try to keep the same sources for all handouts that way students can see the differences between each major citation style in action. Updates to the MLA 8th edition one are forthcoming. Please click the images below, or the files to the right to view/download the complete handouts.

Research Guides at
Northern Essex Community College

I am tasked with creating and maintaining a variety of research guides at NECC. These are two that I am most proud of.

The "How to Format Your Research Paper" was a continuation of a project that I started working on at a previous position. It has quickly become one of the most utilized guides at NECC.

The "How to Use Google More Effectively" guide was born out of attendance in a workshop held by Alan November. It breaks down many of the confusing aspects of Google searches, and is used regularly by students, faculty, and staff.

To see more of my work with LibGuides 2.0 software please visit the NECC Research Guides website.

Women of the 116th Congress

I created this poster using Canva software. It highlights the record amount of women we have serving in the 116th Congress. Each image used is available freely in the public domain. This poster is available to all, and is tagged with a CC BY-NC-SA license. It is formatted for 36" x 24", but can be easily scaled down.

Information Literacy Sessions at
Northern Essex Community College

Every librarian at NECC is tasked with teaching a variety of information literacy classes. I use Google Slides for all of my presentations and create unique URLs (created with bit.ly) for each lesson. This allows for students to have access to the slides during the class, and until the end of the semester.

Although I have slides, I use them in conjunction with the discovery of resources, hands-on searching, and hearty discussion of the topic(s) covered.

Displays at Northern Essex
Community College

These are some of the signs that I have created for various displays at Northern Essex Community College.

All signage was created using either copyright-free images, or my own personal images, and Canva software.

I am new to Canva, however, I am excited to have the opportunity to use such an intuitive and creative tool. I have seen a significant increase in the quality of my signs/posters in this past year. I look forward to spending more time learning the ins and outs of this collaborative and innovative tool.

These are some of the displays, signs, and projects that I have produced as a Substitute Librarian III for the Hawaii State Public Library System. All signage was created using copyright-free images and easel.ly software.

Making Professional Posters

This slideshow and hour-long instruction session was created based upon the needs of current LIS students, many of whom are tasked with creating a professional poster for the first time.  The session covers many of the basic points of poster making, such as the importance of slide sizing.  The session was capped off with a viewing of multiple student posters from previous semesters.

This was the fifth version of this presentation. I presented to LIS students in October 2015, October 2016, and September 2017. I also presented to LIS faculty and community members in the summer of 2016, and students & faculty at Windward Community College in Spring of 2017.
